New York City Ballet: Heatscape

ROLE

Motion Designer

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Justin Peck’s Heatscape was debuting in New York at The New York City Ballet. The ballet itself is set to Bohuslav Martinů’s Piano Concerto No. 1, and the New York edition featured a mandala-inspired backdrop by artist Shepard Fairey. The NYCB was looking to create a campaign trailer video to promote Heatscape's debut, which would capture the drama of the choreography.

We settled on the visual concept of vibrations, to highlight the distinct rhythmic nature of the music, and felt that rocks forming and separating into patterns evoked Peck's energetic, harmonious choreography. I worked on several simulations including the text disintegration, central face formation and mandala detail formations.
