PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Benriach Whisky wanted to produce a campaign video for their new Shades of Smoke whisky, a 31 year old single malt evoking spring and summer floral notes. They worked with Italian-Dominican generative artist, Stefano Contiero, to develop the packaging artwork where no two bottles are the same. The campaign video had to reflect the soft, smoky nature of the artwork.
The concept of the campaign video was to highlight how Stenfano Contiero's artistic practice perfectly complemented Benriach's gentle blend of juniper and hibiscus notes. The simulations we developed reflected the movement of one another, with fluid motion continuing throughout each scene.
I worked on several simulations, including fluid, smoke and particle simulations. I also built the flower geometry for the flower smoke simulation.

Senior Look Dev Artist: Jess Smith
Senior Motion Designer: Woody Hai
Made at Where Giants Roam
I built an initial fluid simulation of liquid pouring into a glass, then used the outgoing velocity to create a particle simulation which mimicked the original flow of liquid in the second simulation in order to evoke the feeling of continuous complementary flowing motion.
The swirling smoke and particle simulation is built in a similar fashion. The particle simulation is what generates the velocity this time, the smoke is then advected by the output. This swirling motif continues throughout the full campaign video.
